Phola Park

A sanctuary of healing and relaxations, a place of love, peace and happiness. Phola Park is where we find refuge and peace, a place of abundance and prosperity.

The collection is multi-layered and explores various notions and thoughts, the initial idea was inspired by images from my mother's photo album of her with friends and family in the 90s in parks enjoying life, joyful and relaxed. The images captured a sense of peace and calm, seeing black joy and love invoked the idea in my head kuthi, Labantu baPholile.

In high school, my Zulu teacher would always shout “Ucabanga ukuthi kuse Phola Park La” every time you wouldn’t do her homework or if you were lazing around in class, this always made me build this idea of this imaginary place in my mind and so the title was born.

The collection is inspired by Phola Park and what we imagine people would be wearing ePhola Park, referencing the 90s nostalgia but still keeping it current and youthful the pieces in the collection are toned down and minimal which is generally our design style. The collection explores both male and female clothing with some pieces left in the middle. An AI painting oil painting, Digital print of South African wild dagga make up the prints in the collection, the colour palette including brunet browns, digital lavenders, off-whites and orange.
